Exit 8 by Genki Kawamura, midnight screening at Cannes Festival 2025

Genki Kawamura's Exit 8, adapted from the video game of the same name, will be presented as a midnight screening at the Cannes Film Festival 2025.

On Thursday, April 10, 2025, the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival unveiled the selection for this 78th edition. This is an opportunity to discover the feature films in official competition for the Palme d'Or, the Un Certain Regard selection, as well as the films to be screened at midnight.

Such is the case ofGenki Kawamura's film Exit 8 , which will be screened in the early hours of Cannes. If you're a gamer, you'll certainly have understood that this Japanese film is an adaptation of the video game The Exit 8, an independent game released in 2023 that has since become a huge hit with gamers the world over.

For the lead role, Genki Kawamura - who is also a writer, behind the Japanese bestseller Two Billion Heartbeats - called on Japanese singer and actor Kazunari Ninomiya, who made his name in Clint Eastwood's 2006 film Letters from Iwo Jima.

Exit 8 will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.

Synopsis: A man trapped in a subway corridor searches for exit number 8. To find it, he has to look for anomalies. If he sees one, he turns back. If he sees none, he continues. But if he makes a mistake, he's sent back to where he started. Will he ever find his way out of this endless corridor?
