Vietnamese cinema in the spotlight at the Grand Rex and Pathé Palace

For the first time, a major event dedicated to Vietnamese cinema will be held in Paris from December 5 to 12, 2025, at the Grand Rex and Pathé Palace, two iconic cinemas in the capital.

Entitled "Vietnam Cinema – Itinéraire de Lumière" (Vietnam Cinema – Journey of Light), this film week will present numerous films produced in Vietnam, including feature films, documentaries, and short films, to professionals and enthusiasts of the seventh art in France.

This selection offers a panorama of fifty years of Vietnamese filmmaking, from 1975 to 2025—a journey through half a century of history, perspectives, and light.

An exceptional selection of 17 films

The works presented include Vietnamese films that have been noticed or distinguished at major international festivals such as Hawaii, Cannes, Busan, Berlin, and Nantes, as well as those that have won important Vietnamese film awards .

Among the highlights to be screened:

  • "Bao giờ cho đến tháng Mười" (When Will October Come), which won the Special Jury Prize at the Hawaii Film Festival in 1985 and is now ranked among the Top 18 Asian films of all time by CNN.
  • The documentary "Những đứa trẻ trong sương" (Children of the Mist), which made the shortlist for the 2023 Oscars and won the Best Director - Documentary Award at IDFA 2022.
  • "Tro tàn rực rỡ" (Glorious Ashes), winner of the Montgolfière d'Or at the Festival des 3 Continents in Nantes in 2022.

More than a dozen other works (fiction, documentaries, and short films) will enrich the program, illustrating the diversity, creativity, and vitality of Vietnamese cinema, including: Devastated Land, A Retired General, The Building, Bi, Don't Be Afraid!, I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass, Song Lang, Cu Li Never Cries, and Don't Cry, Butterfly!
