Hidden down a leafy alley in the 14th arrondissement, step inside Mosaïcafé if you're looking to clear your mind and forget your worries for two and a half hours. The charming Delphine, a Parisian mosaic artist, welcomes you into her cozy studio filled with vivid pieces of ceramics. While you can request a custom piece to be crafted for you, the main focus here is on mosaic workshops designed for beginners—perfect for a creative activity that requires no prior experience, only patience and determination.
You’ve probably heard of Space Invaders, the tiny mosaic patterns found on the walls of major cities worldwide. During our workshop, we also get creative by assembling small ceramic tiles to bring a piece of art to life—whether it’s abstract, depicts a favorite food, an animal, or a custom motif. The result? A personalized coaster or placemat that will add a vibrant touch to your dining room decor!
No matter your artistic skill level, you'll feel completely unjudged thanks to a group class where everyone starts from the same point, guided by Delphine's thoughtful teaching. Once you've settled on your design and color palette, you'll gather and assemble pieces one after another with care and focus. It’s an activity we found especially , transporting you to a different world far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city — all behind closed doors.
The more we fill our placemat, the trickier it gets—since our ceramic pieces aren’t always the perfect size! So, we start cutting them with pliers to fill in the tiny gaps and minimize the empty space as much as possible. Once the masterpiece is complete, and it already looks stunning, comes the grouting stage! Whether white, black, or colored to highlight the pattern’s variations, all that remains is to pour the grout between the tesserae, revealing the full beauty of your creation. Unlike pottery, there's no need to wait for it to dry and come back for it—you leave with your work right away, proud of what you’ve made with your own hands!
During the class, everyone enjoys a small snack, because nourishing the mind deserves a little treat, all while engaging in pleasant conversations with neighbors around the table. We can assure you, even if you're not particularly skilled or confident with hands-on activities, mosaics might just captivate and surprise you! And if it becomes your new passion, you can sign up for multiple sessions to create larger pieces, or try out workshops to learn how to decorate a coffee table, a flower pot, or a mirror!
If you want your children to try out this craft activity, it's suitable for kids from 7 years old, and perfect for celebrating a birthday. We leftFeeling delighted, accompanied by a little ghost and a big sun!
