Paris Design Week 2026: a reinvented café and wooden design at the Bibliothèque historique de Paris

During Paris Design Week, design is on the move. It leaves the showrooms, crosses the cobbled courtyards, and takes over some of Paris’s most beautiful settings, transformed for the occasion into an open-air urban festival. Established designers, rising stars and craft professionals test their ideas directly with the public, with free installations that push furniture, materials and usages out of their comfort zones. In short, for ten days, Paris gives its living-space planning a serious rethink, from September 10 to 19, 2026.

In the Marais, the Bibliothèque historique de la Ville de Paris is staging a playful setup in the courtyard of the Hôtel de Lamoignon, a 16th- and 17th-century townhouse that already oozes charm. First run with Service compris, conceived by the collectif ppdesigner, founded in 2025 by seven designers: around forty creators reinterpret the Parisian café in a bright, uncoordinated decor where tables, seating, crockery, lamps, and even mock pigeons form a deliberately eclectic whole. Readings and activations will bring the whole installation to life.

Fibois also stakes its claim in the courtyard with its space in the open air, showcasing the 2026 laureates of Bois Français & Design and its theme "Espaces en commun.s" (“Shared Spaces”). After drawing more than 10,000 visitors in 2025, the exhibition returns for an extended run, featuring French wood and repurposed timber turned into gathering areas, games, seating, and even a ferris wheel.
