The Delta: a bookstore café in the 6th arrondissement offering writing, drawing, and philosophy workshops

In a neighborhood renowned for its literary heritage, the bookstore Le Delta welcomes readers of all ages with its cozy café, creative writing and drawing workshops, and thought-provoking talks on philosophy and art history.

What could be more fitting than a bookstore-café in the 6th arrondissement, one of the city's most literary hubs? Near Saint-Sulpice, Delta is envisioned as a lively space for community and conversation: a carefully curated selection of books, a café counter, and a regular calendar of events that fosters dialogue between ideas, arts, and readers — from book launches and author meet-and-greets to reading evenings, intimate concerts, workshops, and conferences.

Far from just being a bookstore where you can pick your next read, although that remains its core purpose, the venue offers much more. You’ll find a café where you can enjoy a hot drink or a glass of wine, evening snack platters, and homemade treats available all day, crafted by the Ferrandi school. It’s not just about discovering a book over coffee—it’s also about engaging in writing workshops every other Monday, attending art history lectures on the third Tuesday of the month, or diving into philosophy discussions on Wednesday evenings!

Things to Do at Delta

  • Writing Workshops – every other Monday, from 7:30 PM to 10 PM

Led by Karine Tercier, an author, publisher, and workshop facilitator with 15 years of experience. These lively, accessible, and inspiring sessions are designed to explore your voice, work through short texts, experiment with different constraints, and practice reading aloud — including listening to yourself. The workshop includes warm-ups, writing prompts, dedicated writing time, guided feedback, and shared readings. Drinks provided.

  • Art History - 3rd Tuesday of every month

Lectures with Delphine Peresan-Roudil. Could art and artists hold the key to better understanding our times? Join us for a series of talks exploring major contemporary themes: creativity, identity, ecology, memory, power… Featuring art screenings and refreshments included.

  • Philosophy - Wednesday evenings

Reflecting on the present without blinkers: ethics, freedom, joy, care, attention, AI… Each session weaves together a key text, real-world examples, and an open discussion. Led by Laurence Devillairs throughout the season, exploring ten major works from Montaigne to Camus.

  • Drawing workshops

What if we finally learned to draw plants and animals as we see them—carefully, accurately, and with wonder? For a weekend, an evening, or a series of three workshops, Delta hosts Ingrid Winkler, a painter and illustrator whose work draws inspiration from the natural world. She shares a refined, naturalist approach to help you depict flora and fauna with both realism and sensitivity.

  • History of Architecture

Over the course of five themed sessions featuring detailed case studies, Alma Smoluch examines the various ways women have shaped architectural history — as architects, patrons, educators, or builders. She highlights the institutional and social barriers that have historically hindered their recognition, while showcasing the diversity and richness of their contributions to designing and constructing our living spaces.

  • The History of Paris

Join Sophie Gacheny as she explores the layers—both visible and hidden—of the city… all from the comfort of your armchair, yet with the thrill of a true adventure. From narrow alleys to bustling boulevards, from one era to the next, let yourself be led through a Paris that tells its story beyond the postcards. Spend an hour to truly understand the city you pass through every day and uncover the cultural landmarks that give Paris its unique soul.
