The Stade Jean Bouin may be less well known than its immediate neighbor, the Parc des Princes, but it is just as important to Parisian sport. The stadium was built in 1925 in the 16th arrondissement, when the CASG, now the Paris Jean-Bouin omnisports club, developed the land on the Avenue du Général-Sarrail. The stadium is named after the French runner Jean Bouin, who died for France in the First World War.
Designed by architect Jacques Lambert, it has undergone several renovations, with the first modernization in 1970 increasing its capacity to 12,000. Between 2010 and 2013, a major transformation was orchestrated by architect Rudy Ricciotti, winner of the Grand Prix national d'architecture, who endowed it with a unique modern structure, with its fiber-reinforced concrete mesh and undulating surface, and increased its capacity to 20,000 seated and covered.
Originally, it housed a gymnasium, field field hockey pitch, tennis courts and athletics track, which were transferred to the Auteuil lawns to keep the various sports sections going. A large part of the old stadium is demolished to make way for a professional rugby stadium. Mainly dedicated to XV rugby, the Stade Jean Bouin has been home to the Stade Français since 1995, who play in the Top 14.
It also hosted the Paris athletics meeting until the early 1990s, when Sergei Bubka's world record was set. In 2016, the Red Star FC club played its home matches there, followed by FC Versailles in 2022, and from 2018 to 2020, the Paris Saint-Germain women's section. In the summer of 2023, the new American soccer franchise Les Mousquetaires de Paris takes up residence in the stadium.
Since 2018, the Stade Jean Bouin has been hosting sports-related events, including the Eleven All Stars, Stream for Humanity and the Gay Games opening ceremony. While Jean Bouin is largely linked to the oval ball, the round ball has its place there, especially as in 2025 an agreement was reached for Paris FC, playing in Ligue 2, to share the stadium with Stade Français from the 2025-2026 season until 2029.
To get to Stade Jean Bouin, take metro line 9 ( Porte de Saint-Cloud) or line 10 ( Porte d'Auteuil).
