To the west of Paris, the Rambouillet forest hides treasures and, even better, hiking trails just waiting to be explored. We take you into this Île-de-France forest, accessible by public transport, for a few scenic outings.

Hiking in Île-de-France? At first glance, we’re a world away from the Alps, the Jura, the Vosges and other French mountain ranges. Yet the Île-de-France region is home to several forests and nature parks, some of which are easily accessible with a Navigo pass.

Within the Yvelines department, the Chevreuse Valley has already inspired more than a few dreamers: spanning a 30,000-hectare territory, it boasts its share of treasures, from the Château de la Madeleine to the Château de Breteuil (which inspired the fairy tales of Charles Perrault), via the Domaine de Dampierre... The Chevreuse Valley, in fact, is part of the Rambouillet State Forest, extending to the edges of Île-de-France, with beautiful trails for walking as well.

Take the chance to discover the picturesque villages of Chevreuse or Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse (including its Little Bridges Walk), and enjoy a stroll through the magnificent Rambouillet Castle park (featuring the stunning Shell Cottage and the Queen’s Dairy).
