On Saturday May 17, 2025, the Swiss city of Basel was alive with the rhythms of the 69th Eurovision Song Contest! For over 2 hours, the representatives of the 26 finalist countries competed against each other in song, with some of them putting in very fine performances, such as those by Austria's JJ and the Latvian all-female musical group Tautumeitas. Other performances were more rocking (Armenia's PARG and Lithuania's Katarsis), wackier (Estonia's Tommy Cash and Sweden's KAJ), or touching (France's Louane and the Netherlands' Claude).
After the performances, there followed the famous (and interminable) voting session (jury and audience) where each country had to award points to their ten favorite songs.
More than 4 hours after the start of the Grand Final, the 69th Eurovision Song Contest finally unveiled the winner for 2025, revealing the name of the artist who will succeed last year's winner, Switzerland's Nemo. Drum roll... Victory goes toAustria thanks to its candidate JJ!
RepresentingAustria this year, JJ won over many countries with his song " Wasted Love ". A fine achievement for this artist with an incredible voice, who took first place in the Eurovision Song Contest with 436 points. With this latest triumph, Austria wins the contest for the 3rd time, after Udo Jürgens in 1966 and Conchita Wurst in 2004. The country will now have the honor of hosting the 70th edition of Eurovision, scheduled for spring 2026.
Just behind JJ is Yuval Raphael, representing Israel. Finally, Tommy Cash, contestant for Estonia, climbed to third place. As for the group KAJ, representing Sweden and this year's bookmakers' big favorite, they finally finished 4th in the contest.
What about France, represented this year by Louane ? The singer came 7th with her song " Maman ". Unfortunately, the French artist couldn't do better than Slimane, who came 4th last year, and Barbara Pravi, who came 2nd in 2021 with her song " Voilà ".
