Which candidate had the joy and privilege of winning the 69th edition ofEurovision? Who succeeds Nemo, the Swiss representative and last year's winner? On May 17, 2025, fans of the Eurovision Song Contest watched with interest as the latest edition was broadcast on France 2 from Basel, Switzerland.
This year, 37 candidates were in the running, all determined to win. But only one of them had the honor of standing on the top step of the podium. While many were hoping that Louane would win this new edition thanks to her song " Maman ", and thus record a new coronation after the one in 1977 with Marie Myriam, in the end it was Austria's JJ who won all the votes. The Austrian representative was one of the favorites to win the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. In recent hours, the bookmakers had placed him second in the contest.
So, who's behind those two letters? Real name Johannes Pietsch, JJ is far from an unknown in his homeland. The artist, who was born in Vienna in 2001 and grew up in Dubai before finally returning to the Austrian capital in 2016, is particularly well known in classical music circles. It has to be said that his vocal qualities as a countertenor are impressive. JJ has taken part in a number of classical productions, including The Magic Flute.
The artist also made a name for herself by taking part in Starmania and reaching the final of this TV show in 2021.
For his Eurovision entry, the Austrian-Filipino artist chose a song that blended pop and classical. Entitled " Wasted Love ", the track was co-written by JJ and TEYA, who will represent Austria at Eurovision in 2023, alongside Salena.
This effective, dynamic track seems to have won over the jury and viewers alike. On May 17, JJ andAustria won the 69th Eurovision Song Contest with 436 points.
Austria thus adds another victory to its record of achievements. The third, to be exact! Austria has already won the Eurovision Song Contest twice before. The first victory came in 1966 with"Merci, chérie" byUdo Jürgens. Then, in 2014, the country won the contest once again with Conchita Wurst's"Rise Like a Phoenix". Congratulations to JJ, Austria's latestEurovision winner.
