It’s a must-attend music festival that draws tens of thousands of spectators each summer in the heart of Paris. Yet, according to our colleagues at Parisien, Fnac Live will not take place this summer. For now, it remains unclear whether the free festival will return in the years ahead. But this decision, which the daily newspaper says isn’t coming from the City, could leave many disappointed.
We should note that this free music festival first took place in 2004 on the banks of the Seine as part of Paris Plages. At the time, the summer event was then known as the Fnac Indétendances festival.
It was in 2009 that the festival was renamed Fnac Live and relocated to the very heart of Paris, offering free outdoor concerts on the forecourt of the City Hall, as well as inside its halls.
Since it opened, a large number of mainly Francophone groups and artists have performed there, including Brigitte, Christine and the Queens, Arthur H, Dominique A, Fauve, Keren Ann, -M-, La Femme, Lilly Wood & The Pricks, Christophe, Mika, Vianney, Julien Doré, and more recently Aya Nakamura, Juliette Armanet and Clara Luciani.
Just last year, the Parisian festival opened its doors to Adele Castillon, Air, Camille Yembe, Eddy de Pretto, Miossec, St. Vincent, not to mention Vladimir Cauchemar. The question now is whether a new cultural event will take the stage on the City Hall forecourt in the summers to come.
It's worth noting that Fnac Live isn't the first summer festival to be canceled this year. Lollapalooza has announced that its 2026 edition will not take place, just as La Défense Jazz Festival, another free music event in Île-de-France. By contrast, the Barrière Enghien Jazz Festival as well as Garden Parvis, two free festivals, will indeed bring live music to the summer.
