A regular presence at La Seine Musicale, Benjamin Millepied is set to debut a fresh choreography with Casse-Noisette. Following several recent creations performed at the Grande Seine, this new production will run from January 7 to 11, 2026. Rooted in Tchaikovsky's iconic score, the ballet offers a modern take on the fairy tale, evoking a wintery atmosphere and designed as a seasonal highlight for audiences.

Originally conceived twenty years ago in Geneva, this version of The Nutcracker blends an academic base with acontemporary breath, nourished by Millepied 's New York experience with the New York City Ballet. For this entirely reinvented revival, the choreographer refines his language, accentuating fluidity, musicality and an intimate relationship with the score. The narrative moves away from the conventions of storytelling to give way to a freer reading, anchored in movement.

The set design is by Paul Cox, a painter and illustrator whose graphic universe plays on visual poetry and childhood revisited. This playful, contemporary visual approach enriches the imaginary world of the play, between tradition and a fresh perspective. The music, specially recorded for this production by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice conducted by Daniel Gil, retains the orchestral richness of the original score while adapting to this new choreographic dramaturgy.
