Robots is coming to the Cité des Sciences on April 2, 2019. Spanning 900 m², right in the heart of the exhibitions on the second floor, this exhibition features a focus on robots, to clearly explain the difference between robots, androids, machines and automatons.
How do you really define a robot? How do they work? What are they used for? Theexhibition answers all the questions posed by children (and adults), and challenges the preconceived ideas, fears and anxieties that have been nourished by literature and cinema for centuries.
As an introduction, the Cité des Sciences showcases Unimate, the first recognized industrial robot, created by Georges Devol and Joe Engelberger in 1961. Numerous robots in working order are on display for visitors to use: by interacting with the robots, we understand the importance of their role in society. For example, we are greeted by NAO, the emblematic robot of the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, Pyrène, a unique humanoid robot that can walk and carry objects, a robot used for research at LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse, Curiosity on Mars, Ocean One.
