The Musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme plans to close its doors between 2027 and 2030, to carry out extension work.

Museums in Paris regularly close their doors for several months or years at a time, in order to carry out the work required to develop the facilities. Art lovers are therefore forced to say goodbye to some of the capital's most emblematic sites, such as the Centre Pompidou, the Musée de la Vie Romantique... Or the Musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme.

This institution in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris is preparing to temporarily close its doors. In a post published on its website at the beginning of 2025, the museum explains that it is planning an extension to the site. These major works will entail the closure of the premises. The Musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme is scheduled to " close its doors at the end of 2027, to reopen in spring 2030, after two years of work."

This project has been made possible thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture, the City of Paris and the Île-de-France region. The aim of the project is toextend the exhibition spaces, so as to offer an updated and up-to-date itinerary. The museum also wants to make itself more accessible to the public, and improve visiting conditions.

Work is expected to cover " roofing and ceilings, waterproofing, insulation, compliance with climatic standards and accessibility (elevators, wheelchair access in the courtyard) ", for a projected budget of 22 million euros.

In order to extend the museum's surface area, the City of Paris has made available the premises of thedisused Clos des Blancs-Manteauxschool, just a few streets away. The museum plans to set up its library and offices in these new spaces. As a result, 600 m² of floor space will be freed up and redeveloped for the museum trail on the rue du Temple site.

In this modernized and reinvented museum, Dominique Schnapper, President of the Musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme, hopes to evoke " the long history of the Jewish presence in France, from Antiquity to the present day, and will enable the discovery of Judaism as a living culture. " Works recently acquired by the museum are expected to feature prominently in the new itinerary.

In the meantime, the museum continues to offer a rich and varied program.
