A plunge into Brazilian art... From April 8 to July 20, 2025, the Musée d'Orsaypresents Lucas Arruda. Qu'importe le paysage on level 5, in rooms 32, 33 and 34. This is the first monographic exhibition devoted to this artist in a French museum. Lucas Arruda explores light through imaginary landscapes, oscillating between figuration and abstraction. This exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay places his work in dialogue with Impressionist works from the museum's collections.
For over fifteen years, Lucas Arruda has been developing a series of small-format paintings entitled"Deserto-Modelo", a name inspired by the Brazilian poet João Cabral de Melo Neto. His landscapes are painted from memory, without models or photographs, reflecting an introspective vision close to abstraction. As the artist himself explains:"Light is at the center of my work, it is movement. It is light that guides my painting, that creates intensity and ends up creating spaces that are neither abstract nor figurative".

Lucas Arruda 's paintings are displayed alongside some thirty Impressionist works. Room 32 shows his paintings alongside works by Camille Pissarro, Eugène Boudin and Berthe Morisot, while Room 33 offers a stand-alone presentation of his work. In room 34, his"Deserto-Modelo" dialogues with Claude Monet's series, highlighting their shared interest in light and the variation of hues.
The exhibition is part of the Saison Brésil-France 2025 and is echoed at the Carré d'Art de Nîmes with"Lucas Arruda, Deserto-Modelo" from April 30 to October 5, 2025. The exhibition highlights the artist's relationship with painting and the construction of landscape, and questions the relationship between memory and representation.
