Oliver Beer, the unusual and free exhibition at the Musée d'art Moderne de Paris

Oliver Beer's contemporary exhibition awaits you at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris: discover a free, immersive exhibition that runs from April 4 to July 13, 2025. More than 3,000 children will reinterpret four of the museum's landmark works in sound and animation. Oliver Beer returns to the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris with Reanimation Paintings: A Thousand Voices, a free immersive contemporary exhibition on view from April 4 to July 13, 2025, the result of an exceptional participatory project involving over 3,000 children and teenagers. Through an approach combining drawing, sound and animation, the British artist offers us a sensitive re-reading of modern masterpieces, in dialogue with the voices of a new generation.

This two-phase project began in autumn 2024, when the museum invited Oliver Beer to design an original participatory work. From October 2024 to January 2025, two studios in the heart of the permanent collections hosted the first phase: plastic and sound collection workshops. Kindergarten pupils, secondary school students and individual visitors were invited to reinterpret, through drawing and voice, four emblematic works chosen for their link to music - the common thread running through Beer's work: Victor Brauner's Stereofigure, Nina Childress' Sylvie (grosse tête), Sonia Delaunay's Rythme and Georges Rouault's Buste de chanteuse de face.

Each drawing was then scanned and assembled on film at a rate of 12 frames per second, forming four animated films supported by a collective sound composition based on the voices recorded during the workshops. Chapter 2, the exhibition, unveils this work to the public. Presented from April 4, 2025, it allows everyone - participating children, families, teachers and the curious - to discover these creations in an immersive display designed to resonate image and sound in a complete sensory experience.

Far from being a simple restitution, this exhibition engages in a true intergenerational transmission, allowing collective memory to infuse art. At the end of the event, the four films and the drawings that make them up will become part of the museum's collections, a heritage in their own right.

As Oliver Beer tells us, today, as adults, we hardly ever draw anymore, whereas as children, everyone did. Let yourself be carried away by the creative and colorful spirit of these hundreds of children, whose work will live on in the museum's permanent collection.

This project resonates profoundly with Oliver Beer's own background: he trained in music composition before studying visual arts at Oxford's Ruskin School of Art, then film theory at the Sorbonne in Paris. Through his installations, films and performances, he questions memory, the resonance of objects and the invisible links between generations. His work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA PS1, Centre Pompidou, Fondation Louis Vuitton and the Lyon Biennale.

Free of charge, this poetic proposition can be visited at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, 11 avenue du Président Wilson, Paris 16th, from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm.
