Empreintes, the name of Sax's ephemeral street-art exhibition, or rather Land-art, takes up residence on Sunday June 29, 2025 at the Théâtre de l'Européen, a stone's throw from Place de Clichy. For this free exhibition visible from 10am to 7pm, the Parisian artist unveils all his ephemeral paintings created in nature since 2023. A unique one-day event, where Clément Herrmann is also invited to exhibit his works.
We know Sax for his flamboyant frescoes where animals come to life in a splashy style blending abstraction and realism. In recent years, he has transposed this universe to natural environments: beaches, forests, cliffs, wastelands... where time erases everything. With Empreintes, he retraces this pictorial adventure that defies the elements. The works presented pay homage to these wild places, these frescoes destined to disappear, created with 100% natural, biodegradable materials.
Among the most striking works is this giant octopus created at low tide in the Kerhervy boat graveyard. A creation born in a very short space of time, before the sea covered it. This site steeped in history, littered with some forty shipwrecks, becomes the stage for a face-off between art and nature. To paint in this difficult-to-reach setting, Sax draws his inspiration from the gestures of the oyster farmers of the Arcachon Basin, using pigments derived from living matter.
More recently, we've seen mythological horses dashing across a rainbow bridge inspired by Bifröst, in a fresco evoking life's journey. In a completely different landscape, the black earth of the Drôme - an ancient Jurassic seabed - sea turtles, symbols of transmission, emerge from the rock. Another place, another message: an abandoned church in ruins, struck by lightning several times, serves as the canvas for a delicate painting in which a butterfly escapes from the stone, like a symbol of rebirth.
Sax, aka Henry Blache, is an artist born in Provence in 1995, now based in Paris. His work has been featured in several free exhibitions in recent years: under the Madeleine church in 2023, and in a gallery in the Marais district for À travers l'océan in 2024. He likes to confront his frescoes with unusual environments, often linked to the fragility of living things. His creations, though ephemeral, are simply incredible. From the infinitely large to the view from a drone high above a captivating landscape, it's breathtaking.
With Empreintes, Sax takes us on a stroll through his vanished ephemeral creations, moments captured on the spot where the artistic gesture becomes one with the landscape. And for the occasion, Clément Herrmann joins this collective exhibition with his own artistic vision. A day to get away from it all, reflect on the passage of time and discover original work off the beaten track. So get out your diary and take a trip to l'Européen on June 29.
