It's sometimes difficult to enjoy cultural outings and exhibitions in the middle of the week, between everyday life and work. Fortunately, if you're more available at the end of the day, many Parisian museums offer evening visits, allowing you to explore the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions in a quieter, more subdued atmosphere, on certain days of the week.
At La Monnaie de Paris, it's Wednesday night! This national monetary institution, created in 864 by the Edict of Pîtres under Charles II the Bald, is the oldest company still operating in France. Since 1775, it has been housed in an imposing neoclassical mansion on the Quai de Conti, and since 2017 has been home to an interactive, sensory museum featuring working workshops, heritage collections, craft demonstrations and innovative devices such as the Numiscope.

The museum traces the history of coinage, metals and minting techniques, against a backdrop of immersive, tactile experiences. Visit the collections every Wednesday until 9pm, with last admission at 8:30pm. In addition, a special guided tour entitled "Behind the Scenes at La Monnaie" allows visitors to explore the factory and the palace at dusk, accompanied by a mediator, a special lighting scheme to discover the presses, machines and architecture of the site from a different point of view.
Full-price tickets cost €12, with a reduced rate of €8. Admission is free for under-26s, and €14 for guided tours. To avoid unpleasant surprises on arrival, and to guarantee your place, the museum recommends reserving your paid tour slot in advance.
