Notice to lovers of couture and fine fabrics: Charles Frederick Worth picks up the thread of his history at MUS - Musée d'Histoire Urbaine et Sociale de Suresnes, from October 15, 2025 to June 21, 2026, Wednesday to Sunday, 2 to 6 pm. Already celebrated at the Petit Palais, the father of haute couture gets a new showcase, just in time for the bicentenary of his birth.
This is no simple retrospective. Here, thecouture exhibition tailors a vibrant portrait of the English couturier who, at just 20, dared to parade all the way to Paris to build an empire of silk and crinoline. With over one hundred works from 15 institutions and private collections, the institution rolls out the red carpet for the man who transformed fashion from a simple garment to a studio masterpiece.
Ball gowns, sumptuous costumes and never-before-seen accessories plunge us into the splendor of the Second Empire, when ruffles reigned and corsets dictated the silhouette. With this exhibition, the MUS also reveals the other side of the coin, that of a more personal Worth, through rare documents, intimate objects and family mementos.
The most French of Englishmen chose Suresnes to build his second home. A hand-crafted exhibition not to be missed in Hauts-de-Seine (92)!
