Fashion and history lovers take note: from November 13 to 18, 2025,Christie's Paris (8th arrondissement) is rolling out the red carpet for Paul Poiret withthe free exhibition "Le monde et la mode selon Paul Poiret" (The world and fashion according to Paul Poiret). This exhibition offers a glimpse into the world of a visionary French couturier who, long before anyone else, redesigned the female silhouette by combining couture and culture, color and freedom.
As the Musée des Arts Décoratifs dedicates its first monographic exhibition to him and the capital celebrates the centenary of Art Deco, Christie's unveils a unique collection, a veritable notebook of inspirations from this ultra-refined era.
Featured is an embroidered sleeve by Paul Poiret, given to Nicole Corrard for the 1912 launch of the magazine Modes et Manières d'Aujourd'hui. Preserved in its original box and adorned with a flower reminiscent of Iribe's famous rose, this textile gem may have been embroidered by the Atelier Martine, founded by the couturier to extend his aesthetic to the art of living.
Alongside this exceptional piece, fashion illustrations take center stage:thirteen original plates by Georges Lepape, created for this same first issue, will also be presented before being auctioned at The Exceptional Sale. A friend of Poiret, master of stencil art, and future illustrator for Vogue in New York, Lepape magnifies the couturier's creations with bold and luxuriously colorful compositions. Echoing this, Pierre Corrard's personal copy, numbered 2/300 and enhanced with an Art Deco binding by André Mare and Louis Süe, completes this tribute to a pivotal moment when Poiret dressed his era and illustration was couture.
