For the first time, the National Maritime Museum will be staging a series of exhibitions at all its sites on a common theme: "The Call of the Deep." An invitation to explore the seabed, but also to take an interest in the first submersible vessels, cartography, technical innovations, and other adventures in the abyss.
At the Trocadéro, the exhibition will trace the history of deep-sea exploration through the ages, from antiquity to the present day, from October 14, 2026, to February 14, 2027.
Nearly 240 works and objects, some of which are on loan from major museums, will highlight humanity's fascination with the deep sea and the means used to unravel its mysteries. The exhibition combines science, art, literature, and popular culture to evoke both the technological achievements and the myths and imaginations born of this invisible world.
From sea monsters to Elsa Guillaume's installations, from Commander Cousteau's explorations to Marie Tharp's discoveries, via Jean Painlevé's visions and Tintin's stories, there is plenty to immerse yourself in these fascinating worlds that are still virtually unknown to man!
