Looking for a great idea for a walk in the Paris region? We've got just the thing for you, a walk to enjoy on your own or with friends and family. Once you've arrived at the Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse train station or the rue Charles Michels parking lot, head towards the village of Chevreuse to reach the start of the " Promenade des petits ponts". Take the Chemin de Coubertin, which runs alongside lush green meadows. A GR Div signposted footpath and cycle path runs alongside the road in the direction of Fondation de Coubertin / Piscine. This path is bordered by a bucolic field, peaceful cows and, in the distance, the majestic Château de la Madeleine.
You can then continue on your way to Ferme de Coubertin, where you can stop off for a visit. On the way back, you may want to stock up on farm produce. From here, it's time to take the path on the right across the fields for about 200 metres, before forking right again onto the GR11. In the distance, you can already see the château de la Madeleine : the walk can begin!
Along the way, let yourself be surprised by the charm of the many small bridges along the way, 22 in all. Stone, metal, decorated with flowers, old, renovated, surrounded by water lilies, straight, concave, etc., their diversity is astonishing.
But the bridges are not the only point of interest on this walk. If you keep your eyes peeled, you'll see here and there traces of the tannery's former activity, such as wash houses, riverside sheds and a hide drying shed, now converted into a community hall and open to visitors.
Built in the 19th century, the Lavoir du Mandar was once a bustling place, with the capacity to accommodate up to 12 washerwomen washing clothes simultaneously. Today, after careful restoration, this historic site offers hikers a sheltered stopping-off point for a moment's rest and serenity.
Once you've reached the Mandar wash-house, you'll discover Chevreuse, a quiet town where you'll enjoy a pleasant stroll. You can refresh yourself on the terrace of the Alchimiste, where you can sample its delicious artisanal syrups.
Once you've reached the center of the village, if you feel like it, you can climb up to the château de la Madeleine, which overlooks the Chevreuse valley. The panoramic view is a welcome reward for your efforts!
In fact, while you're in the area, why not take the opportunity to visit the Maison-musée Raymond Devos, an unusual and fun cultural venue that's sure to surprise you!
