The Moon Festival returns to Belleville with its 4th edition of the Lantern Festival, transforming this emblematic district of the 20th arrondissement into a veritable crossroads of Asian culture. Organized by theAssociation des Commerçants Bellevillois, this free event celebrates the Chinese tradition of Mid-Autumn, a symbol of family reunion and harmony.
We invite you to discover this beautiful tradition, which brings thousands of visitors together every year to enjoy colorful lanterns and authentic gastronomy. One of the most important celebrations in the Chinese lunar calendar after New Year's Eve, Belleville is the perfect setting for this festival to spread beyond cultural borders.
This weekend, October 11 and 12, 2025, from 11am to 10pm, Boulevard de Belleville will be transformed into a veritable street of Asian gastronomy. Street food stalls offer a culinary journey through Asia: Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai and Cambodian specialities are all on offer to tantalize gourmets' taste buds. The unmissable mooncake, a golden pastry with a variety of fillings, reigns supreme at these traditional festivities.
The lion dance traditionally opens the event with the opening of lions' eyes, a spectacular moment that fascinates young and old alike. Traditional dances, including the Eng Go Bu, punctuate both days, alongside concerts and musical entertainment. Calligraphy workshops introduce the curious to this age-old art, while local craft stores offer souvenirs and original creations. This 2025 edition follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, which have won the loyalty of an ever-growing public.
The choice of Belleville to host this celebration is not insignificant. This cosmopolitan neighborhood, straddling the 10th, 11th, 19th and 20th arrondissements, has long been home to a large Asian community. Belleville station (lines 2 and 11) provides easy access to this multifaceted area, known for its food market and many authentic restaurants.
The event is supported by the four borough councils involved, reflecting the importance attached to this intercultural event. This institutional collaboration provides a safe and festive setting for this exceptional moment of sharing.
The Moon Festival, traditionally celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, coincides with the brightest full moon of the year. This age-old tradition, which unites families around the values of harmony and prosperity, has a particular resonance in Belleville, with the spirit of conviviality that characterizes this working-class neighborhood.
Admission is free and open to all, allowing visitors to discover these flavors and traditions from elsewhere, in the spirit of openness that is the hallmark of Parisian culture. Optional registration simply enables the organizers to estimate the expected attendance for this promising new edition.
