For several years now, Seth has been leaving his artistic signature on walls the world over. Seth, whose real name is Julien Malland, discovered street art in the mid-90s. He produced his first works in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. After graduating from the École des Arts Décoratifs, Seth embarked on a world tour in 2003 to " exchange ideas with artists from different cultures ". In 2007, he published his book"Globe Painter", which became his nickname as an artist.
Since 2009, Seth 's work has been showcased inexhibitions in France and abroad. In Paris, Seth has already exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo, Galerie Magda Danysz, Musée en Herbe, the Fluctuart barge and Galerie Itinerrance on several occasions.
Today, his sublime paintings of faceless children, immortalized in the four corners of the globe, are well known to street art enthusiasts. The innocence that emanates from his works, both poetic and committed, often contrasts with the harshness of their environment.
A native of Paris, Seth has left his mark in many places around the capital. If you'd like to admire them with your own eyes, here are a few places where you can find them!
We begin our stroll in the 13th arrondissement, a must-see district for urban art enthusiasts. It's here, not far from the frescoes by Shepard Fairey and Inti, that Seth has created an impressive work immersing us in the colorful world of childhood. Stretching over three separate walls, the fresco is an anamorphosis representing childhood in the metropolis. Entitled"Gamin de Paris", the work can be seen at 110 rue Jeanne D'Arc, in the 13th arrondissement.
Not far from there, other paintings by Seth can be admired. To do so, you'll have to make your way to the famous Butte-aux-Cailles district. The first stop is rue Gérard, where several of the street artist's drawings can be seen, notably at N°47 and N°53.
We then headed for Place de la Commune, still in the 13th arrondissement, to discover two children suspended in mid-air, holding hands.
A stone's throw away, take Rue Buot, where no less than four paintings by Seth await you (around N°5, then between N°17 and N°19, and also at N°24). An opportunity to (re)discover the now famous little girl walking on tanks in homage to the Ukraine.
Finally, at the corner of rue Buot and rue Martin Bernard, two children's faces are concealed behind medieval helmets. Several other signed works were created in the Butte-aux-Cailles district. We leave it to you to discover them!
We're moving to the 5th arrondissement to follow in the footsteps of two famous works created by Seth: " Les amoureux de la rue Mouffetard " (2019) and " La Maison de Cécile " (2021). To photograph them, head for the junction of rue Mouffetard and rue Saint-Médard.
This second fresco was born of his meeting with Cécile. A shopkeeper for 43 years in a souvenir and gift store on rue Mouffetard, Cécile unfortunately found herself in difficulty due to the Covid crisis. So Seth created a huge mural, bearing Cécile's first name and depicting a little girl drawing a house. And the street artist went even further. In the summer of 2024, he decided to repaint part of the front of this " Obj'Ai Trouvé " souvenir store.
For fans of Seth's work, the gift store also sells " Les amoureux de Mouffetard ", " La Maison de Cécile " and " L'Ukraine en marche " mugs. On the day of our visit, we chatted with Cécile. She talked about this wonderful encounter and this " lovely story ", which she sometimes finds hard to realize, adding that this adventure had really " reboosted " her for the future.
Another neighborhood, another Seth mural. We're now heading for the 17th arrondissement. Alongside other artists, Seth has sublimated part of the façade of the Marché des Batignolles. His paintings, inspired by children's books (Alice in Wonderland, The Little Prince), can be admired at the intersection of rue Brochant and rue Fourneyron.
Several more of Seth 's works will soon be appearing in Paris, including one not far from " La Maison de Cécile " in the 5th arrondissement, and another in the Belleville district.
