For one dazzling evening, the Hôtel de la Marine turns words into shining stars. On January 23, 2026, as part of the Night of Reading, this historic site will offer an immersive experience blending regal jewels with literary masterpieces.

The 10th edition of Nuits de la Lecture will take place from January 21 to 25, 2026. Celebrating its milestone anniversary under the theme of “Cities and Countryside,” the event invites book lovers from all walks of life to honor the art of reading. Throughout Paris and its surrounding region, five spectacular evenings will transform historic landmarks and institutions into open-air stages, where innovative readings and performances breathe new life into both classic and contemporary texts in a lively and friendly atmosphere.

The Hôtel de la Marine will host a special evening on January 23, 2026, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Located on Place de la Concorde, this 18th-century architectural masterpiece was long used as the Crown’s storeroom before becoming the headquarters of the Ministry of the Navy. Recently restored, it now showcases opulent reception rooms and houses the Al Thani collection. Its gilded salons and loggia, offering breathtaking views of Paris, make it one of the most spectacular venues in the city.

The Nuits de la lecture program at the Hôtel de la Marine

In harmony with the exhibition "Dynastic Jewelry", the Hôtel de la Marine offers a captivating evening event titled "Jewels, Power, and Seduction". Delivered by the voices of the company Les Livreurs, this performance brings literary masterpieces to life amid the grandeur of historic salons.

The program explores the symbolism of gemstones across the centuries: from the ironies of The Indiscreet Jewelry by Diderot to the delicacy of Gigi by Colette, passing through the tension of The Necklace by Maupassant or the mystical quest in The Pearl by Steinbeck. This sound walk underscores how jewelry—whether urban and aristocratic or rooted in rural tales—remains a powerful vehicle for storytelling and desire. An immersive sensory experience where the beauty of words merges with that of regal adornments.

Note that entry to the event is available upon purchase of a ticket for 13 euros. Entry is free for visitors under 26 years old. No prior registration is required, although it is still recommended.
