The fine days are returning once again in the région parisienne, and on the eve of summer, an event that pairs nature with culture is making its return à Paris et en Île-de-France: this is the Rendez-Vous aux Jardins. For a weekend, private as well as public parks and gardens take turns offering a special program designed to share their treasures, secrets and passion while highlighting the patrimoine botanique of the region. This year, the event runs on the weekend of June 5–7, 2026!
This is the perfect opportunity to discover the Jardin des Cinq Sens, tucked in the heart of the Louis Braille's birthplace house and its museum, dedicated to the inventor of the writing system for the visually impaired, which bears his name. Located in Seine-et-Marne, in Coupvray, you’ll discover a sensory garden that, as its name suggests, aims to awaken the five senses along the stroll. Sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste are all stirred by the 500 plant species that fill this green jewel. Read on to learn this year's programme!
On the occasion of the Rendez-vous aux jardins, the Louis Braille Museum invites visitors to reframe their view of the Jardin des cinq sens through the lens of Plato’s cave allegory.
For a long time, blind people were kept in the shadows, barred from knowledge, culture and independence by social structures as well as by a lack of adapted tools.
In this sensory and playful journey, the garden becomes a space for reflection and experience. Thanks to vision simulators, visitors are invited to question their perception of the world, then to walk, step by step, toward the light: the light made possible by the invention of Braille.
Through touch, exploration and play, everyone discovers how tactile writing opened up unprecedented access to knowledge, to reading and to emancipation for blind people.
An invitation to see differently, to feel, and to understand how Braille transformed shadow into light.
On the occasion of Rendez-vous au jardin, the Louis Braille Museum invites families to a playful, immersive experience: a flower hunt.
Armed with a question booklet, young and old will set off to explore the garden in search of hidden clues. Observe, touch, decode… each step will engage the senses and curiosity.
Some clues will need to be deciphered in braille, offering a different way to discover the writing invented by Louis Braille and to begin a new way of reading the world.
For every correct answer, petals are handed back to the participants. The more clues they gather, the more their flower blossoms…
At the end of the course, everyone can assemble their petals to create a unique, colorful bouquet—a poetic keepsake from this garden adventure.
A family-friendly activity, blending a treasure hunt, sensory discovery, and an introduction to braille, to rediscover the garden in a fresh light.
After exploring the gardens and the "From Shadow to Light" path, learn more about Braille and its brilliant inventor. A one-hour guided tour of the Maison Natale, designed as an immersion into the life, work, and legacy of Louis Braille.
