Belleville Park, a green bubble on a hillside in the 20th arrondissement

Several entrances are tucked away around the district, starting from the Belleville belvedere on Rue de Couronnes, Rue Piat, and Rue Julien-Lacroix: you can reach the park either through grand wrought‑iron gates or through small bucolic passages that conjure up nature strolls.

With its winding trails (paved especially to provide access for people with reduced mobility and strollers) and its intimate stairs, the parc de Belleville offers a green, transporting pause in a neighborhood with the charm of a small village. For children, this is where you’ll find—undoubtedly— one of Paris’s finest playgrounds: conceived around the notion of risk (even though your kids will be entirely safe) and built on a slope, the playground features incredible slides, beautiful descents and climbing tracks for all ages, from 6 years and up. Another, smaller playground, meanwhile, is aimed at the little ones under 6, to spark their curiosity through installations scaled to their size.

Up higher, you can climb to the Belleville belvédère, which offers an unobstructed view (and yet little-known) of all of Paris: the Montparnasse Tower, the Eiffel Tower, the great historic landmarks... At sunset or sunrise, the view has something poetic, almost magical, that you never tire of.

Occasionally, performances or activities are offered at the Maison de l'air et de l'espace, nestled in the heart of the park, and if the shows take place outdoors, you’re invited to settle into the park amphitheatre, right next door.

Thanks to the wine-growing heritage of the Belleville neighborhood, vines were planted a few years ago, forming the Clos de Belleville, which is harvested in some years at the end of summer. As the nice days approach, the expansive lawns of the park are crowded with picnic-and-aperitif enthusiasts outdoors, and frankly, one can understand why: with its flower beds, its lush green lawns and the view over Belleville Park and Paris, the place is perfect for a summer evening!
