Many an audience member left the screening of Naomi Kawase's Tokyo Delights with an irresistible craving for dorayaki. It has to be said that the film speaks with love and delight of the making of this cult Japanese pastry.
If you're not familiar with dorayaki, we'll explain. Dorayaki are Japanese pastries made up of two small Japanese pancakes (sort of like super-chunky pancakes), joined by red bean paste, called anko in Japan.
If that description alone makes your mouth water, then we've got just the address to take you all the way to Japan. The Tomo patisserie specializes in dorayaki. At the helm of Tomo are two chefs, Romain Gaia and Takanori Murata, for an exciting Franco-Japanese marriage.
At Tomo's, dorayaki are made right before your eyes. You can enjoy them while they're still warm, and they're a true delight of lightness. On the menu are classic dorayaki with fleur de sel, but other flavors are also available: matcha, ricotta-yuzu, lemon... There's something for everyone!
Gourmets can even devour dorayaki inspired by French pastries, such as the Paris-Brest dorayaki and the Baba au rhum dorayaki. Enjoy a cup of quality tea in the store, which doubles as a tearoom.
