La Gaîté Lyrique offers affordable brunches with exotic flavours, in a majestic setting

La Gaîté Lyrique is a well-known meeting place for Parisians. Exhibitions, concerts, meetings, workshops: people come here to enjoy themselves, to marvel, to discover new artists... The program is rich and always exciting. But food for the mind isn't enough to keep us in shape. Fortunately, the Gaîté Lyrique has thought of everything: the cultural institution is organizing new brunches, to be tested between May 20 and July 9, 2023.

Original brunches are offered every season. For this spring/summer edition, the dates are set for the weekends of May 20 and 21, June 10 and 11, and July 8 and 9.

The brunches are held in the historic Foyer de la Gaîté Lyrique, in theformer theater. This exceptional setting alone is worth the detour: high ceilings decorated with moldings and paintings, ornate columns, large windows that illuminate the room, an ancient fireplace and carved mirrors... This splendid room gives us the impression of living an exceptional experience. But decor isn't everything, and it's not enough to make us appreciate a meal.

Fortunately, the Gaîté Lyrique also knows how to surprise and amaze us. With short supply chains, seasonal produce, homemade cooking and a caterer committed to solidarity, this brunch takes care of our taste buds by focusing on quality. An all-you-can-eat buffet, the brunch offers a varied choice of sweet and savory dishes, with many vegetarian and gluten-free options.

We were able to try out the Gaîté Lyrique brunch operated by Bande de Cheffes, an eco-responsible catering service that works with exiled women, to " facilitate their access to professional life and independence." These chefs offer dishes from their respective cultures, as well as a few classics from French cuisine. Forget the traditional scrambled eggs or pancakes, this menu is much more unique.

Chocolate and orange moelleux are served alongside Gift cake and orange blossom and pistachio cream. Beet, apple and feta salad is served with toasted corn bread, lentil-spinach dahl and baccalau with cream and candied onions. For those with a sweet tooth, customization options are available: choose homemade muesli or fromage blanc, and add honey, jam, compote... Drinks include organic teas and fair-trade coffee, as well as hot chocolate. Homemade juices with ginger or minty lemon complete the picture.

We appreciate the subtle, spicy flavors of the dishes, which sometimes bring surprising and new tastes, but are always well-balanced. The dishes remain light: you can serve anything without risking a liver attack. We particularly liked the freshness of the beet salad and the orange blossom cream. The Gift cakes and toasted cornbread were also great discoveries, with their original flavors.
