To combine food and thought, head to the Monsieur George hotel, which organizes a chess tournament one Sunday a month, accompanied by a tea-time.

If your passion equals your appetite, and you enjoy playing chess just as much as indulging in pastries, then this event is made for you: Chess and Cakes. Once a month, the Hôtel Monsieur George hosts a chess tournament paired with a delightful afternoon tea. Mark your calendars for the upcoming dates: January 11 and February 8, 2026.

Engage both your mind and your taste buds with this tournament, organized in partnership with Blitz Society, the chess bar in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. Open to all skill levels, the Chess and Cakes event runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., bringing together up to 34 players for 6 rapid-fire rounds — each lasting just 10 minutes per player.

In addition to enjoying a lively atmosphere of competition and camaraderie, the top players will have the chance to win prizes directly linked to the 8th arrondissement hotel. Prizes include a night’s stay for two at Monsieur George, or a cozy raclette dinner for two at Café Aristide. The perfect blend of friendly competition and Parisian lifestyle!

All of this can be enjoyed alongside a carefully curated tea-time prepared by the hotel. The entire experience costs €40, including the tournament and the tea-time, so be sure to register if you're tempted by the event. Are you ready to take on your opponents?
