Tired of sandwiches and salads at lunchtime, and looking for something more substantial to eat? If you live or work not far from Paris's 9th arrondissement , an alternative opened in March 2025: a French canteen, with traditional dishes but fast food!
Gone are the dishes that left us with bad memories of the canteen, be it school or corporate. At Cocottes Gourmandes, you'll find only good French produce, local, seasonal and, above all, homemade that very morning by Amine and his team!
This is an address particularly aimed at working people, since it's only open for lunch on weekdays! It's best to take away or have your stew delivered, as there are only a few seats in the restaurant and a few on the terrace in fine weather. The menu features 12 different healthy and balanced options, allowing you to choose a meat or fish dish with a choice of two side dishes, including vegetarian options!
While this menu is priced at 13.5 euros, two others allow you to add drinks, starters and desserts, but you can also choose a single side dish or compose your meal without a menu to your liking. When it comes to dishes, there's plenty to choose from, whether you're a fan of good meat, simmered vegetables or a traditional comfort dish.
All presented in cocottes (hence the name of the restaurant, of course) from the famous Le Creuset brand, which you can buy on site! We like the fact that allergens, calories and suggested side dishes are indicated on the handy little displays.
For our lunch, we decided on a bit of Hachis Parmentier, alongside a gratin dauphinois, because you only have one life! As a matter of principle, we did add a little green beans, though.
And well we did, for it was succulent, a real gustatory pleasure, between the spicy, well-spiced beef mince, salted to perfection, with an incredible, buttery Robuchon-style purée sprinkled with a savory crunch.
As for the gratin, which is as creamy as you could wish for, and the melting potatoes with nutmeg, you can feel that it's homemade, and rediscover the comforting pleasure of the simple, good French dishes you ate at your grandmother's house, with a truly unforgettable taste.
The other, more well-balanced plate features a salmon in which you have to be wary of bones, but which is perfectly cooked, soft sweet potatoes and tasty, authentic creamed spinach. If you come every day, you'll be able to try different dishes, since they change every day and come back a little later. During our visit, there was also an old-fashioned poultry fricassee or breaded chicken fillet!
It's not here that you'll still be hungry when you finish your meal, we can tell you, if you prefer to eat light, this isn't necessarily the best place depending on what you choose! While we waited to find room for dessert again, the only item on the menu that day was a crème chocolat, we took it to go, and were surprised by how light it was. It doesn't weigh down the stomach, and turns out to be delicate and airy, without being too sweet, perfect to finish off!
In short, at Cocottes Gourmandes, you can feel thelove of the land and the cuisine on your plate!
