Looking for a real Mexican restaurant? You’ll love spending your nights out at Mamacita, this new and freshly inaugurated restaurant set on rue Rougement in Paris 9th arrondissement.
Mamacita is the story of three friends (François, Franck and Thomas) who teamed up to create a place mixing tasty Latin America and contemporary cooking with a warm décor in a festive atmosphere.
After working at La Esquina in New York and El Pastor in London, there knew they had to open a spot of this kind in Paris. So, let’s enjoy a Mexican Tequeria, these tacos bars that are incredibly cool and missing in Paris.
When you arrive, you notice a large bar running on the right side of the bright room. In the middle, in a semi-circle, the décor is inspired by Lucha Libre ring with a DJ booth near the bar for nice and lively nights on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
We’re in a street-like Mexican atmosphere with plants and warm colors designed by Cut Architecte that aimed at taking us to the country’s streets.
In the kitchen, we have Mariana Beccera Mateos, a young chef coming from Guadalajara – the capital of the state of Jalisco, THE gourmet region in Mexico. She was trained by Beatriz Gonzalez at Neva and later at Coretta. You’ll love her tacos, quesadillas, tostadas and ceviches, they’re just divine. The good point is that tacos based on corn flour are gluten-free. Intolerants and allergic people will be delighted.
At Mamacita, it’s all about sharing. Let’s start then with choosing starters to share. Mango-based guacamole, Pimientos, ceviche holbox served in shells, Queso fundido (understand melted cheese served with homemade tortilla) and corn Bunuelos (fritters) are served in the middle of our table so that we can nibble on them in a friendly way. Note that at Mamacita, everything is homemade from chips to tortillas. We feel how fresh ingredients are and how mastered spices are, it’s really tasty.
Moving on to mains, the house specialty is tacos, obviously. Let’s then choose tacos, served by two, and to share. Pork roasted on a spit, lamb’s shoulder, king shrimps, vegan or fish, it’s up to you. And generously juice lime over and season with homemade pepper – red or green depending on your taste. Tacos are soft and are eaten in no time. The menu also provides nice dishes: ceviche and salad, swordfish and sweet potato, sirloin steak and polenta or even vegetable mix are available on the menu.
We finish the meal on a sweeter note with lovely desserts that are not left out. Lemony pavlova based on avocado and mango sorbet and coconut sorbet, or Flan Napolitano expect sweet-toothed patrons.
As for the bar, the spot selected the best alcohols from artisanal distilleries: Tequila, Mezcal, as well as Mexican rum. Let’s travel to south America with a Cachaça, Pisco from Peru and Bolivian Gin. If you are not into alcohol, no problem, the place provides exquisite cocktails that are without alcohol and a nice selection of Aqua Fresca including the famous Horchata Mexicans drink when they meet their families on Sundays.
In other words, if you’re looking for a nice restaurant to enjoy with your friends with a nice and festive atmosphere, you know where to go!
