Set a stone’s throw from the Saint-Sulpice church, Bon Saint Pourçain makes foodies and gourmands very happy. Fabulous.

Nestled in a narrow street behind the Saint-Sulpice church, it has been 5 years Bon Saint Pourçain sparks desire and delight in many foodies and gourmands in town.

Running the former Auvergne restaurant, David Lanher and chef Mathieu Techer (ex-Sendrens and Sergent Recruteur) come up with a chic and shock cuisine, classic and yet oh-so different, perfect and oh-so biting.

Inside, a few leather bench seats, and only 7 tables; outside, a small terrace with 4 tables, that has been widened for the summer so that you can enjoy long summer evenings.

On the menu, we have for lunch and dinner 4 starters, 3 main courses and 3 desserts, including now classic dishes worked depending on seasons and the chef’s mood. And for the latter, lockdown has been good as he created new wonders, based on vegetables, fishes and meats from Terroirs d’Avenir.

That day, for lunch, we went for a very fresh starter, the white tuna carpaccio, sucrine salad, orange, radish, Thai vinaigrette (€18) with a very round starter: a fantastic slice of veal kidney and foie gras pâté en croute. This lunch starts very well.

We then move on to mains along with a nice glass of wine – of course, we are at Bon Saint-Pourçain, the name of the vintage in Allier. We continue with a nice thread between the fish-starter: the brill fillet with miso (€27), green beans, zucchinis with sweet Thai flavors thanks to a delicate emulsion.

By the way, here, sauces and juices are homemade. And what a jus! The jus of the veal fillet (€32) is absolutely fabulous, like the oh-so tender meat with a side of sweet onion, turnip and fennel purée,

We close this wonderful lunch with two high-quality desserts: on one side, the crunchy mille-feuille, and on the other, the rum baba with whipped cream (€14); both super indulging.
