MAD, the joyful table in Paris 11th arrondissement

Duo Rida Amajod and Enzo Nicaise – already running Vava in Paris 18th arrondissement – have opened a second restaurant, in the 11th, and it is very delightful.

If you have been delighted by duo Rida Amajod and Enzo Nicaise’s first address, Vava, then you will love MAD, the two friends’ latest indulging project opening in Paris 11th arrondissement.

At Vava, the atmosphere was a neo-bistro with Mediterranean influences. But MAD is more into plants and intimacy with a few tables, perfect to sit with a small group of friends at dusk, a handful of seats in front of the counter or the street, perfect to eat on a rush at midday.

Speaking of lunch, MAD provides you with affordable sandwiches to eat on site or take away, suiting local workers’ budget while taking care of their taste buds: the Sandwich du charcutier (€6.5) with – to your liking – Basque lomo, boar mortadella with truffle, homemade country-style pâté and pickles; or the Sandwich gourmet (€9) with roast beef, tandoori mayonnaise and raw vegetables.

Note that MAD takes great care of its cold cuts, most of them coming straight from Italy, and cut to order in front of you! For lunch as well, a bistro dish (€13) and a seasonal salad (€11) and the dessert fo the day (€4.5) changing every week.

At dinner, Rida Amajod and Enzo Nicaise’s menu provides small (but not that small!) plates to share between friends and more sophisticated dishes. And we went for the latter the day we came to the restaurant.

Starting with a plate of cold cuts – we could not say no – the team speaks so highly of. We discovered the homemade country-style terrine (€8), Galician beef chorizo (€7), truffled boar mortadella (€9) and other Basque lomo with Espelette pepper (€8). This lunch starts very well.

Next up, homemade truffle taramasalata (€7) and grilled bell peppers, very spicy and marinated in dried garlic (€8). We love it!

Then, we go for two beautiful meats, one on side, the pork ribs (€16), barbecue sauce and smoked light corn foam, so good; on the other side, the chicken skewers, mafé sauce (€12) with 120-day farm yellow chicken of an incredible tenderness as it is cooked in orange juice. This is a massive YES for us.

And to toast while we eat, MAD has a nice selection of natural and organic wines. We will come back for sure!
