Energy: the lights on the Eiffel Tower will be turned off early from now on

Lights out! Rumor has it the Eiffel Tower – currently lit until 1 a.m. – will now turn its 336 lights off at 11:45 p.m.

The source directly comes from Paris mayor’s entourage, this Saturday September 10, 2022, validating a JDD article. This initiative is part of the energy sobriety plan expected to be announced this Tuesday September 13, 2022, by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.

“It’s an eminently symbolic gesture to participate in raising awareness about the need to save energy,” Jean-François Martins, president of the site operator SETE told AFP.

According to SETE, the night lights only represent 4% of the yearly consumption of the “Iron Lady”. The goal of turning off the lights of the Eiffel Tower at night has a symbolical meaning, it is to show example “as the world’s most visited monument” (7 million visitors reported yearly prior to the Covid-19 pandemic).

No more long nights out with the Iron Lady and its golden glow. Now, it will remove its sparkling outfit at 11:45 p.m., when last visitors are expected to leave. Watch out!
