Paris fashion museum Palais Galliera was first said to reopen on March 31, 2020. But the grand opening is postponed to October 1, 2020, delaying the occasion for us to discover the museum’s new exhibition areas after two years of renovation works.

The Palais Galliera has announced to reopen on October 1, 2020. Paris fashion museum was closed since July 2018 for renovations. We can then discover what has been changed inside the museum, and especially the new exhibition areas created in the palace’s basement.

In two years' work, the fashion museum has doubled up its exhibition surface: the new refurbishments include some extra 670sqm of galleries devoted to the upcoming exhibitions of the Palais Galliera. The new areas are named after Gabrielle Chanel to which the museum devotes its first exhibition after its reopening.

At the end of the renovations, the Palais Galliera enjoys enough space to provide temporary exhibitions and display permanent collections counting up to 200,000 pieces from the 18th century to nowadays. The museum becomes the first fashion museum in France to display its permanent collections.

Other alterations are to be noticed during this reopening: the Palais Galliera now features a bookstore-store, a teaching workshop and a seasonal outdoor tearoom. We can’t wait to discover all these novelties that promise to make of our visit a very pleasant one. Let’s meet in a few months over a cup of tea to talk about the works we would have (re)discovered at the fashion museum!
