Did you know? As Notre-Dame proudly stands in Paris, under its parvis hides another and more secret treasure: the archaeological crypt. Travel back in time in this mysterious place and discover more about the City of Lights. This is where you can discover vestiges from the Antiquity that have been found only pretty recently when archaeological diggings have been carried out between 1965 and 1972.
In the 1970’s, the crypt under the Ile de la Cité is fitted so that it can unveils its precious discoveries to the general public from 1980. Since then, you can learn about the evolution of the capital throughout 2000 years of history. From the Antiquity, walk across the Middle-Ages, the Haussmann designs and understand why Paris has become the magnificent city it has become.
Meet from September 9, 2020 underneath the Île de la Cité for this meeting with the History of Paris. And for the grand reopening, the Crypt offers us an exhibition, Notre-Dame de Paris, from Victor Hugo to Eugène Viollet-Le-Duc, opening on September 9!
