Your brain feeling a bit neglected right now? Mark your calendar for March 10 to 15, 2026, and come compare your mind with fellow participants through math workshops and a chess tournament at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie!

In celebration of Mathematics Week, the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie is hosting a variety of activities designed to give your brain a workout — from mental arithmetic to chess! From March 10 to 15, 2026, families can take part in friendly mathematical game workshops, mental calculation competitions, or join in a giant chess tournament, tailored to different age groups. The event is free and open to all, but remember to reserve your spot when necessary!

From Tuesday to Saturday, a giant chess game is set up in the hall of the Science and Industry City. Come practice solo or with loved ones to gear up for weekend tournaments! Throughout the week, relax while exploring a variety of game selections. Memory, strategy, abstraction, mental math, chance, logic… there’s something for everyone!

  • March 11 and 12, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM - Céline’s Workshop: Collaborative Creation of Mathematical Origamis

Join us for a group activity where participants will work together to craft vibrant origami models known as "fireworks".

A selection of math-themed games where strategic thinking is key.

  • March 14, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM - Mini Tournament

An informal tournament (not officially registered) for beginners aged 4 to 9 years old.

  • March 14, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM and March 15, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM - Chess Intro Workshop

Learn good practices, play relaxed games, practice tactics, receive personalized tips, and pick up tricks to improve quickly. Friendly competitions welcome players of all skill levels—from beginners to casual players—within a fun and educational environment.

  • March 14 and 15, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM - Condichess

Challenge yourself on a giant chessboard — kids and adults can face off in timed, live-commented matches right in the science city’s hall.

  • March 14, 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM - Mathematical Tales

Storyteller Marie Lhuissier, accompanied by musician Alexandre Dandelot, will present three math-themed tales for children aged 3 to 10: The Snowmaker’s Tale, The Magic Key, and The Direct Story.

  • March 14, 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM - Maths for Kids

Explore mathematics in a playful way. This workshop covers various subfields of math, showcasing the richness and diversity of this science.

  • March 14, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM - Astro’Games

Enjoy game sessions guided by a specialist, featuring board games that stimulate thinking, calculation, and strategy—along with lighter games for fun.

Join a chess competition and test your skills!

  • March 15 - Introduction to the Rubik’s Cube

Get started in the art of solving Rubik’s Cubes with the French Speedcubing Association.

  • March 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. - Fantastic Games - registration required

Game sessions led by a specialized facilitator, featuring board games that promote thinking, calculation, and strategy—plus some lighter options for variety. Each session lasts between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the game chosen and its complexity.
