A charming storefront, home to stuffed toys, costumes and games, back-to-school accessories, and gift ideas for friends... The shop doesn’t reveal its hand at first: at Mombini, the toy store offers a full range for children and families, but its real strength is its dining service for an audience that Parisians typically overlook when it comes to restaurants.
Since opening in 2013, Mombini has been ahead of the curve as one of the early kid-friendly spaces pioneers (today there are many more in Paris, much to the delight of both kids and parents). It offers a shop stocked with toys and accessories of all kinds, thoughtfully designed for children aged 0 to 10 and their parents. Think costumes, decor, plush toys, creative workshops, small-bowlware for little ones, puzzles, games, and accessories for adults (water bottles, laptop sleeves, and more)... In short, everything you need to discover a lovely baby gift idea, whether for a new mom, an expectant one, or a school friend.
This project is the second child of Dac et Elisa, a Parisian couple who would have loved to enjoy such a place as they welcomed their daughter. A local presence, in a neighborhood they already call home, to allow the residents of Vaugirard (and those ready to hop on a bike or the metro to discover this charming spot) to benefit from an address that is particularly family-friendly.
After the shop, you’ll discover the café-restaurant, with a play area for kids right next door. Handy when the little ones hate staying put: on the menu, a brunch is served every day featuring very fresh bowls, cheese toasties, sweet pancakes with yogurt… as well as a kids’ menu for €8.50 (includes a main, crudités, a glass of juice and a dessert). There are options for the tiniest tots (without teeth) too, for €5.50. Everything on the menu is homemade; in fact, a chef has joined Mombini to offer a delicious, seasonal, and nostalgic menu.
For a snack or a coffee break any time of day, you’ll find a menu packed with hot drinks, from espresso to Viennese chocolate, including a piccolo (a tiny latte), a freddo cappuccino (iced cappuccino), and even a raspberry matcha. Expect hot drinks priced from €2.50 to €6.50, with plant-based milk available as a dairy alternative for a small supplement (€0.50). There are also cold drinks featuring organic juices, plus alcohol options for grown-ups (spritz and beer). For the hungry, a generous slice of homemade carrot cake, a big chocolate chip cookie, or a sponge cake are baked fresh every day. Kids have their own hot drink called Babyccino (€3.50). It’s also possible to celebrate a birthday at Mombini, with an entertainer for games, surprises, a cake and drinks, at €480 for a group of 10 to 12 years old (starting from 4).
In addition to dining, Mombini also runs a dedicated workshop space: English-language storytelling, making automata, dance with baby, children’s first aid, physiological babywearing... Or even, baby massage and kids’ yoga, with sessions designed for parent and child to attend together. Expect to pay from €10 to €49 to join a workshop, and you can gift them as a gift card to a future or new mom. The full program is available on Mombini’s site.
A great spot for families, worth discovering for a clever gift idea, a hands-on workshop with your baby, or a snack break while the kids enjoy a little play area!
