In Nemours, in Seine-et-Marne (77), the traditional fireworks display for the National Day 2026, originally scheduled for this Tuesday, July 14, is indeed canceled. The reason: a prefectural order issued on the evening of Wednesday, July 8, 2026, bans pyrotechnic launches within 200 meters of a sensitive area due to the fire risk. The town hall, informed shortly after, confirms the news. No bursts of color in Nemours’ sky this year, but the National Day isn’t wiped from the calendar altogether.
The decision does not spare the town nestled along the Loing, at the gates of the Fontainebleau forest, a massif rightly classified as a sensitive zone. For days now, Île-de-France has been enduring a third heat wave and a marked drought, a lethal cocktail that pushes up the risk of fires starting. The fireworks, which until now had benefited from a discretionary permit, are therefore suspended until July 15, 2026 across the entire department.
The Seine-et-Marne prefecture is issuing its order on fire risk, which remains exceptionally high near forests and wooded areas. The measure applies to all filming planned in the immediate vicinity of these zones, including those that had previously been granted an exemption.
Surrounded by nature, Nemours unfortunately ticks all the boxes. And the town isn’t the only one affected: across much of Seine-et-Marne, several municipalities have received the same message in recent hours. A scenario also unfolding in other Île-de-France départements, beginning with the neighboring Essonne, where all the fireworks have been canceled.
Good news: the republican banquet is definitely on. The town hall invites everyone at 7 p.m. to Terrasse du Moulin to share this convivial moment, among neighbors and families, in the friendly spirit of long outdoor tables. A chance to toast the National Day and enjoy a nice summer evening, even without a grand finale over the rooftops.
