Seine-et-Marne tightens the rules on July 14, 2026 fireworks: the prefecture bans launches within 200 meters of sensitive areas and restricts pyrotechnic displays through July 15, amid the fire risk.

In Seine-et-Marne (77), the fireworks for July 14, 2026 are being organized this year under strict conditions. While the department remains on orange heatwave vigilance, as the rest of Île-de-France, the prefecture has decided to limit the launches for the national holiday. The rule targets all fireworks and pyrotechnic displays whose firing area is located within 200 meters of a sensitive space. The measure runs through July 15 inclusively.

It all starts with a prefectural order dated July 8, 2026. The decree bans fireworks launches too close to risk zones and, for the same period, suspends the processing and granting of exceptional permits for open fires. In other words, shows can still go ahead, but they will be much more tightly regulated than usual. The full details are available on the Seine-et-Marne prefecture’s website.

Why are fireworks displays restricted in Seine-et-Marne?

The reason is simple: fire. Météo-France has issued a fire hazard bulletin for natural spaces, grading the risk of fire as severe, with very dry soils and parched vegetation. In such conditions, a single spark can be enough to ignite a blaze that spreads rapidly.

The proof is in the facts: about ten fires broke out on Tuesday in Seine-et-Marne. nationwide, nearly 8,000 hectares have burned in the first eight days of July 2026, almost double the total for all of July 2025. The prefecture is also prioritising the preservation of emergency services’ capacity, already stretched by the heatwave. Note that the state-owned Trois Pignons forest, which straddles Seine-et-Marne and Essonne, remains closed to the public until July 15.

Fireworks canceled, but activities go ahead

Note that while some fireworks displays may be canceled, the entertainment program, including performances and dances, will still go ahead. Vaux le Vicomte has, for example, opted for a drone show instead—stay tuned.

Drought: Which rivers are being monitored?

The heatwave isn’t the only pressure on the region. Several rivers in the department are under close monitoring due to the drought. Le Réveillon has been raised to crisis mode, the highest level, while the ru d'Ancœur shifts to reinforced alert and the Fusain to alert.

The Seine, the Marne, the Grand and Petit Morin rivers, as well as the Orvanne and the Nonette, are currently under watch. Depending on the situation, these conditions may be accompanied by restrictions on water use, with details also posted on the prefecture site.

Before heading out to a fireworks display, we therefore advise you to check with your town hall that the show is still on, as cancellations or postponements can come at the last moment.
