Following a prefectural order, fireworks are banned in Essonne through July 15, 2026. The July 13 display in Gif-sur-Yvette has been canceled. "The fireworks will be rescheduled to a later date," the commune announced, adding that the evening program and other activities will go ahead as planned.
For the Fête Nationale on July 14, which celebrates the historic storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, as well as the Fête de la Fédération of 1790, the whole of France celebrates with fireworks displays across the country, popular dances and great entertainment.
Every summer, July 14th is a not-to-be-missed date for the French, who take advantage of the traditional military parade on the Champs-Elysées, fireworks displays in almost every town and city in France, open-air concerts and balls, and family activities to explain the importance of this holiday to the youngest.
In the Essonne department, the town of Gif-sur-Yvette is putting on a full slate of festivities. While the fireworks are canceled this year due to fire risk, the town is keeping its other events on, inklusive the dance party and the republican picnic to bring a lively vibe with a variety of tunes all evening long. Whether you’re with family, friends, or a couple, you’re sure to have a wonderful evening on July 13, 2026!
