Nearly 150 years on, July 14 remains celebrated in towns and communes across France, which often host events such as military parades, bals populaires as well as fireworks sometimes set off on July 13.
If the city of Paris lays on a solid lineup of festivities for the sole day of July 14, including a military parade on the Champs-Élysées in the morning, followed by an aerial display, and a fireworks show from the Eiffel Tower in the evening (this year, it will exceptionally take place on July 13), other nearby municipalities are opting to light up their fireworks on the 13th. Several reasons are cited for this date, but all signs point to giving more residents the chance to enjoy it, since the following day is a public holiday.
