Spring vacations continue, with a special event on the horizon: this weekend we celebrate Easter. As always, Monday is a public holiday, offering a three-day weekend for those who don't have a vacation.
Many French people, Parisians and Ile-de-France residents alike, are jumping at the chance to travel and get out of their region. In fact, many people are expected to take to the roads over the extended weekend. Bison futé classifies much of the weekend as red and orange. The main traffic arteries are expected to be busy from Friday April 18 onwards.
According to Bison Futé, this Friday' s traffic is classified as red in the direction of departure. Slowdowns are expected from late morning onwards, with traffic jams expected at toll gates on the A10, A86 and A6 motorways, as well as on secondary roads leading to them and at border crossings. TheA13 could also be affected by mid-afternoon.
Saturday April 19 remains complicated: north-west France is still classified as red. The rest of the country is orange for departures, and green for returns. From morning onwards, traffic will be disrupted in the Paris region, heading for the A6 and A10 toll booths. The situation will become more complicated from midday onwards, notably due to departures combined with the weekend's commercial activity. TheA13 is likely to experience slowdowns from late morning until early afternoon.
Sunday April 13 is classified as green in both directions. No major traffic problems are expected on this day, offering an ideal window for late departures or early returns.
As on Saturday, the north-west is classified as red, and the rest of the country as orange in the return direction. Freeways are expected to be very busy from late morning until late evening. Around the Île-de-France region, from late morning onwards, Bison futé expects heavy traffic and slowdowns on the A10 and A6 freeways.
Remember: on the road, caution is the key. Take breaks every two hours, stay hydrated and, if possible, change drivers regularly. And beware of weather and rain warnings, which could make your journey even more dangerous.
