As temperatures top 30°C in Paris and the Île-de-France region, a new heatwave is sweeping across France. After several days under orange alert, Paris shifts to red heatwave alert this Saturday, July 11, 2026, from noon.
In Paris, the heat can be tough to endure. That’s why the capital has rolled out a range of cooling zones, spanning libraries, swimming pools, and fountains. If you’re after a shady spot during this heatwave, you can also make the most of the city’s green spaces to cool off and find more tolerable temperatures, especially in the evening and overnight.
In the face of this heatwave, the City of Paris has decided to keep most of its parks, gardens and squares open 24/7 through Monday, July 13, 2026, inclusive. Some spaces will remain closed for safety reasons. This exceptional measure allows residents to enjoy the green spaces during the coolest part of the day.
Throughout this period, most city parks and gardens will be open overnight, including areas that are usually closed after dark, such as Parc Monceau, Parc Montsouris, Parc Georges-Brassens, Parc André-Citroën, and Parc des Buttes-Chaumont.
Several exceptions are nonetheless planned due to the configuration of certain sites or for security reasons. Under normal circumstances, among Paris’s roughly 540 green spaces, about a quarter are already accessible around the clock. These 140 parks and gardens open 24/7 are spread across all the city’s districts and let people enjoy cooling spaces in any weather. Independent of this exceptional measure, the City of Paris extends each year, from July 4 to September 6, 2026, the opening of several green spaces until midnight. This summer program aims to make cool spots accessible after sunset. Among them:

This usual list is, however, replaced in this edition by the opening 24h/24 de la plupart des parcs, jardins et squares municipaux jusqu'au 13 juillet inclus. Some spaces remain closed for safety reasons.
The City is deploying tailored surveillance to keep these areas safe in the evening and overnight. With the heat and dry ground, the fire risk is also high: flames must be avoided and no cigarette butts should be discarded in green spaces.
