This summer, the RER B will not escape maintenance and modernization work. RATP has announced work on several sections of this line, in June, July, August and September 2023. Discover the details of these upcoming disruptions on the RER B.

It's a period that public transport users in Paris and the Île-de-France region dread. Every summer, SNCF and RATP take advantage of the fact that many Parisians are going on vacation to carry out maintenance and modernization work on the rail network. And this summer of 2023 will be no exception, with traffic disruptions announced on the RER A and C lines, but also on the RER B.

" The work being carried out on the line will mean interrupting train services during the day, evening and on certain weekends in June, July, August and September. The aim of all this work is to maintain, modernize and prepare RER line B for the arrival of future trains," reads the RER B blog.

Traffic disruptions on RER B's North axis

So, what exactly can we expect this summer? On the RER B North axis, traffic will be interrupted between Gare du Nord and Mitry-Claye on August 12, 13 and 14, all day long, and in both directions. RATP invites passengers who are able to do so to postpone their journey, especially on Monday August 14.

As for evening service interruptions, RATP warns that there will be no trains between Châtelet - Les Halles and Aéroport Charles-de-Gaulle 2/ Mitry-Claye from June 1 to 16, then from September 4 to 8, from 10:45pm until the end of service. Here too, replacement buses will be provided.

Traffic disruptions on the RER B South line

What about disruptions on the RER B South axis? From July 14 to July 21 inclusive, and from August 5 to August 20 inclusive, traffic will be interrupted between Fontaine-Michalon and Massy-Palaiseau all day long (in both directions). The aim? To carry out modernization work on the Chartres and Gallardon bridges. All trains will therefore terminate at Fontaine-Michalon and Massy-Palaiseau. To help passengers on their way, RATP will be running a shuttle bus service to Massy-Palaiseau, Massy-Verrières, Les Baconnets and Fontaine-Michalon stations.

Another major disruption announced on the RER B South line? From July 22 to August 4 inclusive, there will be no trains between La Croix de Berny and Massy-Palaiseau. For the duration of the work, all trains will terminate at La Croix-de-Berny and Massy-Palaiseau. Here too, RATP has announced the provision of a shuttle bus service to La Croix de Berny, Antony, Fontaine-Michalon, Les Baconnets, Massy - Verrières and Massy - Palaiseau stations.

Major adaptation work " to prepare for the installation of the future MI20 rolling stock " will also interrupt all-day service between Bourg-la-Reine and Robinson, from July 22 to August 25 inclusive. Bourg-la-Reine will then become the new temporary terminus, and a system of replacement buses will serve the Bourg-la-Reine, Sceaux, Fontenay-aux-Roses and Robinson stations during this partial traffic closure.

RATP also warns that trains will not run on the RER B between Gare du Nord and Denfert-Rochereau from July 24 to August 11 inclusive, from 11.30pm until the end of service.

Finally, bad news for Bagneux residents, as the RER station will be closed from May 29 to August 27 inclusive. " Trains will continue to run without serving the station ", says RATP.
