Are you a daily user of metro line 1 and planning to stay in Paris for work this summer? Then you'll need to plan ahead. Summer work is scheduled to cause disruption on several metro, RER, Tramway and Transilien lines.
In the metro, closures are expected on lines 8, 12 and 14. Line 1 will also be affected. Line 1 is 16.6 km long, linking La Défense in the west to the Château de Vincennes in the east. With its 25 stations, line 1 follows the historic axis of Paris, serving the Champs-Élysées avenue, Place de la Concorde, Tuileries Gardens, Louvre Museum, Châtelet, Hôtel de Ville, Gare de Lyon and Nation. Carrying around 184.4 million passengers a year, line 1 is the busiest in the RATP network.
Even though it's an automatic line, Line 1 isn't exempt from construction work. This summer, a three-week partial closure has been announced for this famous yellow line. In detail, traffic will be interrupted from Monday August 11 to Sunday August 31, 2025 inclusive, between La Défense and Charles de Gaulle - Étoile. The aim of the work? To replace switches and crossings at Les Sablons station.
As a result, La Défense, Esplanade de la Défense, Pont de Neuilly, Les Sablons, Porte Maillot and Argentine stations will be inaccessible. Charles de Gaulle-Étoile station will be the temporary terminus for the duration of the closure. Substitution buses will also be provided. "They will operate at normal metro times in both directions, with a run every 3 to 9 minutes depending on the time of day. Stopping points will be indicated at the entrances to the stations served", explains RATP.
As Île-de-France Mobilités, the public transport authority, points out on its website, these summer works, planned for a large part of the network, are intended to improve train punctuality, optimize comfort and enhance passenger safety. The work is also being carried out to prepare for the arrival of new rolling stock and " the interconnection of future metro lines 15, 16, 17 and 18 with the existing network ".
