Train travel for the May 8th bridge is looking increasingly complicated. The CGT has joined the call for strike action by SNCF drivers and controllers on May 5. The strike comes on top of several notices already issued by Sud-Rail, making rail travel uncertain during the May bank holidays.

The CGT has announced its intention to join the strike movement at SNCF from May 5, 2025, in support of the demands of drivers and controllers. This mobilization comes against a backdrop of growing social tensions within the railway company. At the same time, Sud-Rail has issued notice covering several strategic days: from 7pm on May 6 to 8am on May 8 for drivers, and from May 9 to 11 for ticket inspectors. These dates include the public holidays of May 8 and 9, as well as the extended weekends.

What are the unions' demands?

The unions, including the CGT and Sud-Rail, are denouncing worsening working conditions, unstable schedules and pay rises deemed insufficient. In particular, they are calling for an increase in traction bonuses for drivers, and a 100-euro monthly increase in work bonuses for inspectors.

What disruption can travellers expect?

May promises to be a particularly difficult month for train users. With several days of strike action spread between May 5 and May 11, 2025, the May bridges - notably those of May 8 andAscension Day - could be severely disrupted. Passengers are advised to plan ahead, consult traffic forecasts and consider alternative transport options if necessary.

Are negotiations underway?

SNCF management claims to be in discussions with the unions. It points out that not all strike notices will result in actual strikes. Nevertheless, the multiplication of strike calls for this key period suggests that there will be major disruptions, unless an agreement is reached between now and then. A word of advice: think in terms of D-systems or plan ahead to avoid finding yourself without means of transport: carpooling, bus, plane...

SNCF is expected to issue regular information bulletins to guide travelers. It is advisable to keep a close eye on the situation, particularly via the SNCF's official channels.
