This summer, Paris is gearing up to look even more like a seaside resort: swimming in the Seine officially opens to the public on July 5, 2025, as part of Paris Plages. 3 new sites will be open free of charge to swimmers wishing to take a dip against the backdrop of the Parisian landscape: on the Île Saint-Louis, towards Bercy, and finally towards the Pont de Grenelle. Whether you're one of those who'd love to swim in Paris's famous river, or have reservations about the idea, you may be wondering how swimming in the Seine will be supervised?
First of all, swimmers will have to pass an aptitude test to ensure that they are sufficiently at ease with the current. 27 lifeguards, spread across the three bathing sites, will supervise these assessments: a bracelet will be awarded to you according to your ease on these bodies of water, and will enable you to swim on the different sites free of charge throughout the summer: you will therefore only have to take the test once.
Water quality in the Seine is regularly tested. Swimming may or may not be authorized, depending on pollution and current intensity: green, yellow and red indicators will inform bathers. Accessible areas are delimited and open at specific times. Wild" swimming remains prohibited.
