Would you like to discover science in a different way, and with the whole family? The Fête de la Science 2025, scheduled to take place from October 3 to 13 across France, this year focuses on the theme of"Intelligence(s)", exploring all forms of intelligence - from human to AI, plant, animal or collective intelligence. In Nanterre, theElectrolab - hackerspace will be the flagship venue for the festivities: three days of festivities, including two days dedicated to schoolchildren (October 9 and 10), followed by Saturday, October 11, open to all.
Electrolab was born in 2010 on the initiative of an enthusiast named Crafty, with an online appeal that brought together a team eager to create a space for scientific, technical and artistic experimentation. The association, under the French law of 1901, was officially established in January 2011, initially in a modest 150 m² space. Little by little,Electrolab grew: in 2013-2014 it extended its workshops to reach 1,500 m², with areas dedicated to electronics, mechanics, machining, chemistry and more. The association is now recognized as a public interest organization, with the"Fabrique Numérique de Territoire" label, and boasts several hundred members. Its credo: non-market transmission of know-how, reappropriation of technologies and collaborative experimentation.
To visit theElectrolab during the Fête de la Science 2025 is to plunge into a living place, where science doesn't just exist on paper, but is built up through practice. Thanks to its 1,500 m² of ultra-varied workshops - electronics, mechanics, prototyping, tinkering, etc. - everyone can touch, manipulate, build and learn. It's also a place where you can meet enthusiasts, makers, amateur and professional researchers, in a friendly, open atmosphere.
In addition,Electrolab plays a role in scientific outreach to a wide variety of audiences: families, students and the curious from all walks of life. Finally, supporting this type of structure also means helping to ensure the survival of an innovative associative space whose economic model is sometimes threatened, but which is a strong pillar of scientific culture in the region. In short, theElectrolab is the ideal place during the Fête de la Science to experience science in a different way - with your hands, your curiosity and your creativity.
Electrolab, a hackerspace in Nanterre, proposes an electronic device consisting of a screen and a noise-sensitive sensor. The screen broadcasts a video of a series of portraits. These are altered by the sound signals received by the sensor. The portraits glitch randomly and in real time according to the surrounding noise.
A scientific mediator will welcome visitors and explain the intricacies of how an LED screen works, as well as the electronic device on display and the Python program that alters the video image in the same way as data moshing.
