Christmas holidays are just around the corner, bringing the perfect opportunity to enjoy a wide range of winter activities and events in Île-de-France. However, travelers should be aware that transportation services will be adjusted during this period. What does this mean? Fewer trains will run across several lines of the RER and Transilien networks from December 22, 2025, to January 2, 2026. Here’s what you need to know.

2025 is already drawing to a close. But before we ring in 2026, Paris and the Île-de-France region have some festive surprises in store for you, from the final days of the Christmas markets, to ice rinks, light displays, and family-friendly winter walks. However, if you’re planning to explore Île-de-France using public transport during these Christmas holidays, it’s best to be prepared. Transilien SNCF warns that service will be adjusted during this period. Specifically, fewer trains will be running from December 22, 2025, to January 2, 2026, on several RER lines.

In detail, the RER lines C, D, and E are affected by this service adjustment. "During the school holidays from December 22 to January 2, transportation services on your line will be adapted: some trains will not run," states the Transilien SNCF website regarding the RER C. The same notice applies to RER D and E as well.

What about the Transilien lines? For now, only two lines are affected by this . These are the lines J and L. However, the service disruption is shorter this time, running from December 25, 2025, to January 1, 2026.

As a result, to better prepare for their journey and before heading to the station, Transilien SNCF advises travelers to check the schedules via the Île-de-France Mobilités app, on the Transilien.com website, on SNCF Connect, or through their mobility app.

Additionally, it's important to note that major maintenance work will disrupt metro and RER services in 2026. Notably, the lines 4, 8, and 12 will be affected, as well as key RER lines such as the RER A, RER B, and RER C.
